Description

Gayo Mountain Sumatra Mandheling Fairtrade Organic Coffee – Medium Roast

Our Gayo Mountain Sumatra Mandheling coffee beans deliver rich caramel sweetness, berry notes, and a smoky undertone, grown in the Gayo Mountain region surrounding the town of Takengon and Lake Laut Tawar in Sumatra, Indonesia – one of the world’s most celebrated Sumatran coffee regions.. This high-altitude region produces exceptional single origin coffee with rich, distinctive flavours. The volcanic, nutrient-rich soils are ideal for cultivating premium Fairtrade Organic coffee with outstanding aroma and taste.

Coffee grown in the Gayo Highlands follows traditional organic farming methods. Small-scale, predominantly shared plantations use organic manure instead of synthetic fertilisers, and no pesticides are used. These beans are 100% certified Fairtrade Organic coffee, ensuring an ethical and sustainable way of producing coffee.

What Fairtrade Organic Coffee from Sumatra Guarantees

  • Payment of a minimum Fairtrade rate
  • Safeguarding workers’ rights
  • Protecting children from exploitation
  • Equality for women
  • Protecting the environment

When you choose Fairtrade coffee from Sumatra, you are directly supporting farmers and workers in some of the world’s poorest communities while enjoying high-quality, sustainably grown coffee.

We roast these Sumatra Mandheling coffee beans with care to ensure consistency of flavour. The complex flavour profile can change significantly depending on the roast, and our medium roast highlights an intense caramel base with hints of berries. A strong smoky undertone, unique to Sumatran coffee, adds depth for coffee lovers who enjoy intensity with something different. Offered as a single origin coffee, its complexity and richness can be savoured black or enjoyed with milk. We especially recommend brewing in a Chemex for clarity and balance.
