Quest’s single origin PNG Marenban medium roast is as unique and delicious as it is intense in fruit and dark chocolate. This is the blackforest cake of coffee beans – rich and full in crema, with a creaminess that reminds us of cashews when served with milk. You might also get hints of Earl Grey due to the fruit qualities and a touch of spice. We love this roast as an espresso, due to its complex profile, and recommend for people who love a strong dark chocolate.
PNG Marenban beans are grown in PNG’s Jiwaka province, the second largest coffee producing area in the country. The bean hails from a 200-hectare locally owned plantation in PNG’s highlands. The estate was a well-known, elite plantation in the 1960s, but around PNG’s 1975 independence from Australia, it was left in disrepair. After it’s repurchase in the 1980s, the estate has slowly been restored to its former glory.
The beans are grown organically, and to preserve their quality, they remain in the highlands as long as possible and are only transported the 320km to the port city of Lae when it’s time to load the boat.
